History of Labor Day

This year marks the 68th year that Bennetts Valley has celebrated their annual Labor Day Homecoming Celebration.  The first celebration was held in 1951, and the original planners of the event were the late Bill Anderson, Dolores Floravit, and the late Hazel Belggi, who was then the president of the PTA.  For the first three years the celebration was held at the old ball diamond, next to the elementary school on route 555.

In 1952 the Bennetts Valley Lions Club was formed and they took over, organizing the celebration until later years when all valley organizations participated.  After three years the site of the Homecoming was then moved to the High School grounds on route 255 to provide a more shaded area for those attending.

Since then it has grown in size and in activities offered for the people that attend every year whether rain or shine.
